Commentary: This was a general article discussing the background of debate concerning Einstein's theory of planetary perihelion motion. It particular, it gives a fuller account of the author's interest in the earlier work of Paul Gerber, who derived the correct formula for the perihelion motion by a 'space and time propagation' theory 18 years before Einstein wrote on the subject.
